Season Start Date Moved up to July 15th!

In order to allow our athletes more time to safely make their way through the US Football mandated progressions for tackling, as well as acclimating our athletes to playing in the late summer heat, Pop Warner has decided to move up the start of the 2025 season from August 1st to July 15th for both Football and Cheerleading for every conference across the nation.

Below you will find correspondence from the Chicagoland Pop Warner President Sonia Jass:

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

The upcoming 2025-2026 Official Rule Books for Football and Cheer & Dance will include a revision to Part III: Pop Warner Regulations; All Programs, INTRODUCTION TO THE RULES, S2, which will now read:

"The Pop Warner Cheer & Dance season shall be defined as July 15 through July 14of the following year. The Pop Warner Tackle Football season will run from July 15 through December 31, while the7v7/Flag Football season will typically take place in the spring, concluding no later than June 30."

Other sections of the Rule Book that reference season dates will be updated accordingly.

This adjustment provides several key benefits, including additional developmental time for youth athletes and teams, increased separation from regional and national championships, and extended opportunities for fundraising. While some regional events are already under contract for this year, we will work collaboratively to determine the best placement for future regional events within the revised calendar.

We understand that there may be a lot of questions in regards to this upcoming change, please be patient as we review and make modifications to our Chicagoland calendar. We will have more information at our presidents meeting this month. I just wanted to get this information that was relayed to me in your hands as soon as possible.

Sonia Jass
Chicagoland President

The Jr. Whip-Purs have always stressed the importance of being a well-rounded athlete, which means that many of our kids play more than one sport.  We understand that moving the start of the season up by half a month will likely cause some scheduling issues with other sports, as well as family vacations, and our coaches will do their best to accommodate these issues on a case-by-case basis.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Board at [email protected].  We're always here to help.
